great hikes ⛰️

Alander Mountain
Alander is like an old friend. I have run/hiked this mountain more times than I can remember and it never gets any easier but the views at the top are always worth it. If you want a tougher hike go clockwise and save the aggressive incline for when you’re coming down.
You add a few miles to this 4.5mi loop by adding a quick jaunt to Brace mountain and taking Ashley Hill back to the Alander Mountain Trail. -
Stissing Mountain
Short and sweet. This hike has a pretty aggressive initial climb if you start going clockwise but it’s not that long and the views are great, especially if you can stomach the climb to the top of the fire tower. You can see this peak from the house!

Harlem Valley Rail Trail
Not so much a hike so much as it is a great place to come cruise on a bike or take a nice walk in the woods on predictable (fully paved) terrain. You can pick it up all over the place but it’s great to do a segment starting in Millerton so you can stop for a bite when you’re done.

Appalachian Trail Segment (CT)
Approximately 30 minutes from the house, this is a beautifully maintained segment of the Appalachian Trail and it take you up to some killer views on Bear Mtn. Be warned that if you continue down Bear Mtn on the other side it’s a hell of a climb to come back.
Gaia GPS
Before setting out on any trails we strongly recommend installing the Gaia GPS app on your phone, it has proven many times to be more accurate than All Trails, especially if you’re without service.
